The Standing Joint Committee on Official Languages met in a televised session at 3:34 p.m., this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Co-Chair, Mauril Bélanger, presiding.
Members of the Committee present:
From the Senate : The Honourable Senators Gérald A. Beaudoin, Jean-Robert Gauthier, Viola Léger, Jean-Claude Rivest and Raymond C. Setlakwe.
Other Senator present: Gérald J. Comeau.
From the House of Commons : Mauril Bélanger, Gérard Binet, Sarmite Bulte, Jeannot Castonguay, John Herron, Bernard Patry, Benoît Sauvageau and Yolande Thibeault.
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Françoise Coulombe and Marion Ménard, Analysts.
Witnesses: From the « Club de hockey Canadien »: Pierre Boivin, President « du Club de hockey Canadien ». From the « Réseau des sports inc. »: Gerry Frappier, President.
In accordance with Standing Order 108(4)b), a study on Part VII of the Official Languages Act.
The witnesses made a statement and answered questions.
