Monday, December 3, 2001
The Standing Joint Committee on Official Languages met in a televised session at 6:00 p.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Co-Chairs, The Hon. Shirley Maheu and Mauril Bélanger, presiding.
Members of the Committee present:
From the Senate: The Hon. Joan Fraser, The Hon. Jean-Robert Gauthier, The Hon. Viola Léger, The Hon. Gerald J. Comeau and The Hon. Elizabeth Hubley.
From the House of Commons: Eugène Bellemare, Gérard Binet, Sarmite Bulte, Yvon Godin, Benoît Sauvageau and Yolande Thibeault.
Acting Member present: Grant Hill for Scott Reid.
In attendance: From the Senate: Tonu Onu, Co-Clerk of the Committee; From the House of Commons: Jean-François Pagé, Co-Clerk of the Committee; From the Library of Parliament: Françoise Coulombe, Research Officer.
Witnesses: From Air Canada: Robert A. Milton, President and Chief Executive Officer; Peter Donolo, Senior Vice President, Corporate Affairs and Government Relations; Sue Welscheid, Vice President, People; Ted D'Arcy, Vice President, In-Flight Service; Michèle Perreault-Ieraci, Ombudsman and Senior Director, Employment Equity and Linguistic Affairs.
In accordance with Standing Order 108 (4b), a study on the bilingual services offered by Air Canada.
Mr. Milton made an opening statement and with Peter Donolo, Sue Welscheid, Ted D'Arcy and Michèle Perreault-Ieraci answered questions.
At 8:03 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
