MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS
Meeting No. 18
Wednesday, October 3, 2001
The Standing Joint Committee on Official Languages met at 3:40 p.m. this day, in Room 112-N, Centre Block.
Members of the Committee present:
From the Senate: The Hon. Jean-Robert Gauthier, The Hon. Laurier L. LaPierre, The Hon. Shirley Maheu, The Hon. Ray Setlakwe and The Hon. Gerald Comeau.
From the House of Commons: Mauril Bélanger, Eugène Bellemare, Gérard Binet, Sarmite Bulte, Claude Drouin, John Godfrey, Yvon Godin, Peter Goldring, John Herron, Scott Reid, Yolande Thibeault.
Acting Members present:
From the House of Commons: Marlene Catterall for Raymond Lavigne, Charles Hubbard for Dan McTeague and Mario Laframboise for Benoît Sauvageau.
In attendance: From the Senate: Tonu Onu, Co-Clerk of the Committee; From the House of Commons: Jean-François Pagé, Co-Clerk of the Committee; From the Library of Parliament: Robert Asselin, Research Officer.
Pursuant to Standing Order 106(1) and (2), election of the Co-Chair and Vice-Chairs.
Scott Reid moved, -That Mauril Bélanger be elected Co-Chair of the Committee.
The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.
Accordingly, Mauril Bélanger was declared duly elected Co-Chair of the Committee (House of Commons).
Sarmite Bulte moved, -That Scott Reid be elected Vice-Chair of the Committee
The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.
Gérard Binet moved, -That Yolande Thibeault be elected Vice-Chair of the Committee.
The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.
It was agreed, -That the Committee meet on Monday and Tuesday afternoons at 3:30p.m.
At 3:46 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
