Monday, June 3, 2002

The Standing Joint Committee on Official Languages met in a televised session at 3:35 p.m., this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Co-Chairs, The Hon. Shirley Maheu and Mauril Bélanger, presiding.

Members of the Committee present:

From the Senate : The honourables Gérald A. Beaudoin, Jean-Robert Gauthier, Viola Léger and Shirley Maheu.

From the House of Commons : Mauril Bélanger, Gérard Binet, Sarmite Bulte, Jeannot Castonguay, Christiane Gagnon, Yvon Godin, Scott Reid, Benoît Sauvageau and Yolande Thibeault.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Françoise Coulombe and  Marion Ménard, Analysts.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission: Jean-Pierre Blais, Executive Director, Broadcasting; Claude Doucet, Director, Distribution and competitive Policy; Réjean Myre, Director, French Language Radio and Television Policy.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(4)b), the Committee resumed the review of and report on official languages policies and programs.

Jean-Pierre Blais made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 5:13 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
