MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 16

Tuesday, October 17, 2000

The Standing Joint Committee on Official Languages met at 3:40 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, for the purpose of electing a Joint Chair (House of Commons) and two Vice-Chairs pursuant to Standing Orders 106(1) and 106(2) of the House of Commons.

Members of the Committee present:

From the Senate: The Hon. Gérald A. Beaudoin, The Hon. Louis J. Robichaud, The Hon. Raymond C. Setlakwe.

From the House of Commons: Mauril Bélanger, Eugène Bellemare, Ray Bonin, Sarmite Bulte, Deborah Grey, Grant Hill, Raymond Lavigne, Dan McTeague, Louis Plamondon, Marcel Proulx.

In attendance: From the Senate: Tonu Onu, Joint Clerk of the Senate. From the Library of Parliament: Françoise Coulombe, Researcher.

Pursuant to Standing Orders 106(1) and 106(2), Election of Chair and Vice-Chairs

The Joint Clerk (House of Commons) presided over the election of the Joint Chair (House of Commons).

Ray Bonin moved, and Marcel Proulx seconded, - That Mauril Bélanger do take the Chair of this Committee as Joint Chair (House of Commons).

The question being put on the motion, it was agreed to.

Accordingly, Mauril Bélanger was declared duly elected Joint Chair of the Committee and took the Chair.

Raymond Lavigne moved, -That Marcel Proulx be elected Vice-Chair of the Committee.

The question being put on the motion, it was agreed to.

Deborah Grey moved, -That Grant Hill be elected Vice-Chair of the Committee.

The question being put on the motion, it was agreed to.

At 3:45 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
