Tuesday, October 17, 2000
The Joint Clerk of the Committee (Ms. Miriam Burke): Honourable members, I see a quorum. In accordance with Standing Order 106(1), your first item of business is to elect a joint chair representing the House of Commons. I'm ready to receive motions to that effect.
Mr. Bonin.
[Translation]
Mr. Raymond Bonin (Nickel Belt, Lib.): I nominate Mr. Mauril Bélanger.
[English]
The Joint Clerk (Ms. Miriam Burke): It is moved by Mr. Bonin. Do I have a seconder? Is it the pleasure of the committee to adopt the motion?
(Motion agreed to)
The Joint Clerk (Ms. Miriam Burke): I declare Mr. Bélanger duly elected joint chair of the committee representing the House of Commons and invite him to take the chair.
[Translation]
The Joint Chair (Mr. Mauril Bélanger (Ottawa—Vanier, Lib.)): Thank you very much for your support. I will try not to disappoint you.
Our next item of business is the election of the first vice- chair. I am ready to receive motions to that effect.
Mr. Raymond Lavigne (Verdun—Saint-Henri—Saint-Paul—Pointe Saint-Charles, Lib.): I nominate Mr. Marcel Proulx.
The Joint Chair (Mr. Mauril Bélanger): Would anyone like to second the motion?
Some members: Yes.
The Joint Chair (Mr. Mauril Bélanger): Do you accept the nomination, Mr. Proulx?
Mr. Marcel Proulx (Hull—Aylmer, Lib.): Yes.
The Joint Chair (Mr. Mauril Bélanger): Are there any other nominations? We'll start with this one, then. If there are no objections...
[English]
Miss Deborah Grey (Edmonton North, Canadian Alliance): I move that Grant Hill be vice-chair.
The Joint Chair (Mr. Mauril Bélanger): I'll take that one right after this one. On the motion for Mr. Proulx?
[Translation]
(Motion agreed to)
[English]
The Joint Chair (Mr. Mauril Bélanger): Madame Grey suggests Mr. Hill for vice-chair.
[Translation]
Would someone care to second the motion?
[English]
Is everyone in agreement?
(Motion agreed to)
The Joint Chair (Mr. Mauril Bélanger): This takes care of the order of business for today. See you next time.
