The Standing Joint Committee on Official Languages met at 3:40 p.m. this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, the Chair (House of Commons), Raymonde Folco, presiding.
Members of the Committee present:
From the Senate:, The Hon. Jean-Robert Gauthier, The Hon. Rose-Marie Losier-Cool, The Hon. Jean-Claude Rivest, The Hon. Louis J. Robichaud,.
From the House of Commons: Raymonde Folco, Mauril Bélanger, Eugène Bellemare, Yvon Godin, Grant Hill, Louis Plamondon.
In attendance: From the Seante: Luc Bégin, Co-Clerk of the Committee. From the Library of Parliament: Françoise Coulombe, Research Officer.
Witnesses: From the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission: Françoise Bertrand, Chairperson; Ursula Menke, Secretary General; Jean-Pierre Blais, Executive Director, Broadcasting; John Keogh, Senior General Counsel.
In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 108 (4) (b), the Committee resumed consideration of official language policies and programs.
Françoise Bertrand made an opening statement and, with Jean-Pierre Blais, John Keogh, and Ursula Menke, answered questions.
At 4:55 p.m., the Honourable Rose-Marie Losier-Cool took the Chair.
By unanimous consent, It was agreed, -That the Committee host a reception in honour of Mr. Eamon O Cuiv, Minister of State from Ireland, on May 16th, 2000.
At 5:20 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
