Committee Business
The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

The Chair presented the First Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, which read as follows:

Your subcommittee met on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, to consider the business of the committee and agreed to make the following recommendations:

  1. That, unless otherwise specified, hearings held by the committee be divided into three one-hour panels;
  2. That all written briefs be submitted to the committee no later than Monday, May 9, 2022 at 4 p.m. and not exceed 1000 words;
  3. That the committee receive testimony from practitioners and family members on Monday, April 25, 2022 and on the theme of palliative care on Monday, May 2, 2022;
  4. That the themes be studied in the following order: palliative care, advance requests, disabilities, mature minors and mental health.

It was agreed, — That the First Report from the subcommittee be concurred in.

Pursuant to the orders of reference from the House of Commons on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 and from the Senate on Thursday, March 31, 2022, and subsection 5(1) of An Act to amend the Criminal Code (medical assistance in dying), the committee resumed the statutory review of the Act.

Félix Pageau, Stefanie Greene and Tim Guest made statements and, with Barbary Pesut, answered questions.

At 8:15 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 8:17 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Leonie Herx and Alain Naud made statements and answered questions.

At 9:11 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:14 p.m., the sitting resumed.

It was agreed, — That the meeting on Thursday, April 28, 2022 be on the topic of palliative care.
