The Standing Joint Committee on Official Languages met at 3:45 o’clock p.m., this day, in Room 701, La Promenade, the Co-Chairs, Sheila Finestone and Rose-Marie Losier-Cool, presiding.
Members of the Committee present:
Representing the Senate: Gérald A. Beaudoin, Rose-Marie Losier-Cool, Jean-Claude Rivest.
Representing the House of Commons: Sheila Finestone, Val Meredith, Mark Muise, Denis Paradis, Louis Plamondon, Angela Vautour.
In attendance: Tonu Onu, Joint Clerk of the Committee. From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Françoise Coulombe, Research Officer.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(4)(b), the Committee proceeded to the consideration of official languages policies and programs.
Witnesses: From the University of Ottawa, Prof. Charles Castonguay, Full Professor, Mathematics and Statistics Department; and From McGill Consortium for Human Rights Advocacy Training (MCHRAT) and McGill Consortium for Ethnicity and Strategic Social Planning (MCESSP), Professor Jim Torczyner, Director.
Each witness made a statement and answered questions.
At 5:33 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
