TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 25, 1997

The Standing Joint Committee on Official Languages met at 3:41 o’clock p.m., this day, in room 705, La Promenade Building, the Co-Chairs, Sheila Finestone, and Rose-Marie Losier-Cool, presiding.

Members of the Committee present:

Representing the Senate: Gérald A. Beaudoin, Rose-Marie Losier-Cool, Jean-Claude Rivest, Fernand Robichaud and Gérald J. Comeau.

Representing the House of Commons: Sheila Finestone, Sarkis Assadourian, Denis Coderre, John Godfrey, Rahim Jaffer, Denis Paradis and Louis Plamondon.

In attendance: Tonu Onu, Joint Clerk of the Committee. From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Françoise Coulombe, Research Officer.

Witnesses:. From the office of the Commissioner of Official Languages: Victor Goldbloom, Commissioner of Official Languages.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(4)(b) the Committee proceeded to the consideration of the Main Estimates and Supplementary Estimates (A) 1997-1998 and of the Performance Report of the Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages for the period ending March, 1997.

Victor Goldbloom made a statement and answered questions.

At 5:16 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
