PROCEDURE FOR THE PRIME MINISTER TO FOLLOW WHEN ADVISING HER MAJESTY ON THE REMOVAL OF THE GOVERNOR GENERAL

PROCÉDURE QUE SUIT LE PREMIER MINISTRE LORSQU’IL CONSEILLE SA MAJESTÉ SUR LA RÉVOCATION DU GOUVERNEUR GÉNÉRAL

1. The Prime Minister may, at any time the Standing Orders of the House of Commons permit a minister to move a motion, move the following motion: “That, in the opinion of the House, the Prime Minister should advise Her Majesty to dismiss the Governor General and, in accordance with section 8 of the Letters Patent Constituting the Office of Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada and sections 3 and 4 of this Act, appoint an Administrator or a new Governor General, as the case may be.”

1. Le premier ministre peut, lorsque le Règlement de la Chambre des communes prévoit qu’un ministre peut proposer une motion, proposer la motion suivante : « Que, de l’avis de la Chambre, le premier ministre devrait conseiller à Sa Majesté de démettre le gouverneur général et, conformément à l’article 8 des Lettres patentes constituant la charge de gouverneur général du Canada et aux articles 3 et 4 de la présente loi, nommer un administrateur ou un nouveau gouverneur général, selon le cas. »

2. The Prime Minister informs the House of Commons of the reasons for seeking the removal of the Governor General.

2. Le premier ministre informe la Chambre des communes des motifs justifiant la révocation du gouverneur général.

3. The leader of each of the officially recognized parties has the opportunity to speak to the motion.

3. Le chef de chaque parti officiellement reconnu se voit donner l’occasion de prendre la parole au sujet de la motion.

4. The motion cannot be amended.

4. La motion ne peut être modifiée.

5. The debate and a vote on the motion are held on any date fixed by the Speaker of the House of Commons, subject to any rule made pursuant to rule 6.

5. Le débat et le vote sur la motion ont lieu à la date fixée par le président de la Chambre des communes, sous réserve de toute règle établie en vertu de la règle 6.

6. Subject to this Act, the House of Commons may, by standing order, make rules respecting this Schedule.

6. Sous réserve de la présente loi, la Chambre des communes peut, par ordre permanent, établir des règles régissant la présente annexe.
