The Standing Joint Committee on the Library of Parliament met in camera at 12:01 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Joint Chair, Royal Galipeau, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present representing the Senate: The Honourable Senators Vim Kochhar, Jean Lapointe, Michael L. MacDonald, Terry Mercer and Terry Stratton.

 

Members of the Committee present representing the House of Commons: Gérard Asselin, Hon. Mauril Bélanger, Hon. Carolyn Bennett, Rod Bruinooge, Dona Cadman, Royal Galipeau, Hon. Gurbax S. Malhi, Tilly O'Neill-Gordon, Louis Plamondon and John Weston.

 

Acting Members from the House of Commons present: Bernard Généreux for Sylvie Boucher and Irene Mathyssen for Carol Hughes.

 

In attendance: Senate: Keli Hogan, Joint Clerk of the Committee. Library of Parliament: François Côté, Analyst; Élise Hurtubise-Loranger, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Library of Parliament: William R. Young, Parliamentary Librarian; Lise F. Chartrand, Director, Finance and Material Management Division.

 
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 and Standing Order 108(4)(a) of the House of Commons, the Committee commenced its study of preparatory work on the Library of Parliament's Main Estimates for 2011-2012.
 

William R. Young made a statement and, with the other witness, answered questions.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee recommend to the Speaker of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Commons the spending proposal presented today by the Parliamentary Librarian for the prospective Library of Parliament's Main Estimates for the fiscal year 2011-2012.

 

At 12:57 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
