An Act respecting a national transportation strategy for the electrification of commuter rail systems

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

1. This Act may be cited as the National Transportation Strategy for the Electrification of Commuter Rail Systems Act.

3. Within 30 days after this Act comes into force, the Minister shall initiate discussions with the provincial and territorial ministers responsible for transportation matters for the purpose of developing, within one year after this Act comes into force, a national transportation strategy for the electrification of commuter rail systems.

3. Dans les trente jours suivant l’entrée en vigueur de la présente loi, le ministre entame des discussions avec les ministres provinciaux et territoriaux responsables des transports afin d’élaborer, dans l’année suivant l’entrée en vigueur de la présente loi, une stratégie nationale de transport visant l’électrification des réseaux ferroviaires de banlieue.

4. The Minister may convene a conference of the provincial and territorial ministers responsible for transportation matters, together with other stakeholders invited by the Minister, if the Minister is of the opinion that holding such a conference would facilitate the discussions referred to in section 3.

4. Le ministre peut convoquer une conférence des ministres provinciaux et territoriaux responsables des transports, et y inviter d’autres parties intéressées, s’il est d’avis que la tenue d’une telle conférence faciliterait les discussions visées à l’article 3.

5. Within 30 days after the strategy referred to in section 3 has been developed, the Minister shall

(a) in consultation with the provincial and territorial ministers responsible for transportation matters, prepare a report outlining the strategy; and

(b) publish the report on the departmental website.

5. Dans les trente jours suivant l’élaboration de la stratégie visée à l’article 3, le ministre :

Implementation

6. After the strategy referred to in section 3 has been developed, the Minister shall work with the provincial and territorial governments — and with any other governments and stakeholders affected by the strategy — to carry out whatever measures are necessary to facilitate the implementation of the strategy.

6. Après l’élaboration de la stratégie visée à l’article 3, le ministre, de concert avec les gouvernements provinciaux et territoriaux — et tout autre gouvernement ou partie intéressée touché par la stratégie —, prend les mesures nécessaires pour faciliter la mise en oeuvre de la stratégie.
