Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

Short title
|

1. This Act may be cited as the Country of Origin Labelling Act.
|

2. The following definitions apply in this Act.
|
|
“food”
« aliment »
|
|
“food” includes any article manufactured, sold or represented for use as food or drink for human beings, chewing gum, and any ingredient that may be mixed with food for any purpose whatever.
|
|
“Minister”
« ministre »
|
|
“Minister” means the Minister of Health.
|
|
|
|

« aliment » Notamment tout article fabriqué, vendu ou présenté comme pouvant servir de nourriture ou de boisson à l’être humain, la gomme à mâcher ainsi que tout ingrédient pouvant être mélangé avec un aliment à quelque fin que ce soit.

Regulations
|

3. Despite anything in the Food and Drugs Act or the regulations made under that Act, the Minister shall, within nine months after the day on which this Act comes into force, make regulations providing that no person shall import or package any food for sale unless a
|
|
|
|
label is affixed to the food clearly showing the country of origin of the food, including the country of origin of the primary ingredients and the country in which the food was manufactured or produced.
|
|
|
|
3. Malgré toute autre disposition de la Loi sur les aliments et drogues ou de ses règlements d’application, le ministre prend, dans les neuf mois suivant l’entrée en vigueur de la présente loi, des règlements interdisant l’importation ou l’emballage d’aliments pour la vente à moins
|

que soit apposée sur l’emballage une étiquette indiquant clairement le pays d’origine de l’aliment, notamment le pays d’origine des principaux ingrédients et le pays où l’aliment a été fabriqué ou produit.
