SUMMARY
This enactment amends the Employment Insurance Act to provide that claimants may not be charged interest or any other penalty for the late payment of benefit repayments or of penalties assessed for violations of the Act.
SOMMAIRE
Le texte modifie la Loi sur l’assurance-emploi afin de prévoir que le prestataire n’est pas tenu de payer des intérêts ni aucune autre pénalité s’il tarde à rembourser des prestations ou à payer des pénalités imposées pour des violations de la loi.

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:
Sa Majesté, sur l’avis et avec le consentement du Sénat et de la Chambre des communes du Canada, édicte :
1996, ch. 23
1. Subsection 96(13) of the Employment Insurance Act is repealed.
1. Le paragraphe 96(13) de la Loi sur l’assurance-emploi est abrogé.
2. The Act is amended by adding the following after section 150:
2. La même loi est modifiée par adjonction, après l’article 150, de ce qui suit :
Interests
150.1 For greater certainty, no interest or penalty is payable in respect of the late payment of

(a) a benefit repayment; or

(b) a penalty assessed on a claimant for a violation of this Act.
150.1 Il demeure entendu que le prestataire n’a pas à payer d’intérêts ni de pénalités en cas de versement en retard :
Intérêts
a) du remboursement de prestations;

b) d’une pénalité imposée s’il y a eu violation de la présente loi.
