SUMMARY
This enactment amends the Employment Insurance Act to increase the benefit period for parental leave from one to two years, and to specify that, where this benefit period is extended owing to the hospitalization of the child, the total benefit period may not exceed three years.

Le texte modifie la Loi sur l’assurance-emploi afin de porter de un an à deux ans la période de prestations du congé parental et de prévoir que, dans les cas où cette période est prolongée en raison de l’hospitalisation de l’enfant, elle ne peut dépasser trois ans au total.

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:
Sa Majesté, sur l’avis et avec le consentement du Sénat et de la Chambre des communes du Canada, édicte :

1. (1) Paragraph 23(2)(b) of the Employment Insurance Act is replaced by the following:
1. (1) L’alinéa 23(2)b) de la Loi sur l’assurance-emploi est remplacé par ce qui suit :
(b) that ends 104 weeks after the week in which the child or children of the claimant are born or the child or children are actually placed with the claimant for the purpose of adoption.
b) se termine cent quatre semaines après la semaine de la naissance de l'enfant ou des enfants du prestataire ou celle au cours de laquelle le ou les enfants sont ainsi placés.
(2) Subsection 23(3.1) of the Act is replaced by the following:

Limitation
(3.1) No extension under subsection (3) may result in the period being longer than 156 weeks.
(3.1) Aucune prolongation au titre du paragraphe (3) ne peut avoir pour effet de porter la durée de la période à plus de cent cinquante-six semaines.
