An Act to amend the Canadian Bill of Rights (right to housing)

Preamble

Whereas Parliament recognizes the dignity and worth of all individuals and acknowledges that they have the right to enjoy the security and benefits provided by proper housing;

And whereas continued access to proper housing, free of unreasonable financial or other barriers, is necessary to ensure that right;

Now, therefore, Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

Canadian Bill of Rights

1Section 1 of the Canadian Bill of Rights is amended by adding the following after paragraph (b):

  • Start of inserted block

    (b.‍1)the right of the individual to proper housing at a reasonable cost and free of unreasonable barriers;

    End of inserted block

Coming into Force

First anniversary

2This Act comes into force on the first anniversary of the day on which it receives royal assent.
