SOMMAIRE
Le texte modifie la Loi sur le Parlement du Canada afin de mettre à jour le cadre d’exercice du pouvoir dont sont investis le président du Sénat et le président de la Chambre des communes pour assurer la sécurité physique partout dans la Cité parlementaire et sur la Colline parlementaire, et d’ajouter une restriction quant aux personnes pouvant être nommées à la direction du Service de protection parlementaire.
SUMMARY
This enactment amends the Parliament of Canada Act to update the framework for the exercise of the power of the Speaker of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Commons to ensure the physical security services throughout the parliamentary precinct and Parliament Hill and to add a restriction on who may be appointed as Director of the Parliamentary Protective Service.

79.54 (1) There shall be a Director of the Parliamentary Protective Service who shall lead the integrated security operations throughout the parliamentary precinct and Parliament Hill under the joint general policy direction of the Speaker of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Commons.

79.55 (1) Insertion start The Speaker of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Commons shall jointly appoint Insertion end a person to act as the Director of the Parliamentary Protective Service. Insertion start They Insertion end shall also Insertion start designate Insertion end a person — identified by name or position — to act as the Director on an interim basis if the Director is absent or incapacitated or if the office of Director is vacant and Insertion start specify Insertion end the maximum period that the person may act as the Director on an interim basis.
