SUMMARY

This enactment amends the Department of Public Works and Government Services Act to require that the Minister may, in developing requirements for public works, allow the use of wood or any other thing that achieves environmental benefits.

An Act to amend the Department of Public Works and Government Services Act (use of wood)

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

1Section 7 of the Department of Public Works and Government Services Act is amended by adding the following after subsection (1):

Use of wood

(1.‍1)In Insertion start developing requirements with respect Insertion end to the construction, maintenance or repair of public works, federal real property or federal immovables, the Minister shall Insertion start consider any Insertion end reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and any Insertion start other environmental benefits and may allow Insertion end the use of wood Insertion start or any other thing — including a material, product or sustainable resource — that achieves such benefits Insertion end .
