SUMMARY
This enactment amends the Motor Vehicle Safety Act to prohibit the manufacture or importation of brake pads for installation on passenger cars unless the brake pads meet the standard established by the recommended practice of the Society of Automotive Engineers.

An Act to amend the Motor Vehicle Safety Act (brake pads)

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:
1. The Motor Vehicle Safety Act is amended by adding the following after section 6:
Brake pads
6.1 (1) No person shall manufacture or import into Canada brake pads for installation on passenger cars unless the brake pads meet the standard established by SAE Recommended Practice J2430 “Dynamometer Effectiveness Characterization Test for Passenger Car and Light Truck Brake Friction Products”, as amended from time to time.
Definition
(2) The following definition applies in this section.
“passenger car”

“passenger car” has the same meaning as in subsection 2(1) of the Motor Vehicle Safety Regulations.
