SUMMARY This enactment amends paragraph 718.2(a) of the Criminal Code by adding pregnancy as an aggravating circumstance for the purpose of sentencing. Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

Sa Majesté, sur l'avis et avec le consentement du Sénat et de la Chambre des communes du Canada, édicte :

1. Paragraph 718.2(a) of the Criminal Code is amended by adding the following after subparagraph (ii.1):

1. L’alinéa 718.2a) du Code criminel est modifié par adjonction, après le sous-alinéa (ii.1), de ce qui suit :

(ii.2) evidence that the offender, in committing the offence, abused a person who he or she knew, or ought to have known, was pregnant,

(ii.2) que l’infraction perpétrée par le délinquant constitue un mauvais traitement d’une personne qu’il savait ou aurait dû savoir être enceinte,
