Wednesday, June 10, 1998

The Standing Joint Committee on the Library of Parliament met at 12:18 o’clock p.m., this day, in room 701, La Promenade Building, the Co-Chair, Senator Philippe D. Gigantès, presiding.

Members of the Committee present:

Representing the Senate: The Honourable Senators Eymard G. Corbin, Philippe D. Gigantès, Jerahmiel S. Graftstein and Normand Grimard.

Representing the House of Commons: Hec Cloutier, John Finlay, Deboray Grey, Raymond Lavigne, Gurbax Malhi, Philip W. Mayfield, Jacques Saada and Brent St.Denis.

Witnesses: From Public Works and Government Services Canada: Glenn Duncan, Director General, Parliamentary Precinct Directorate; Mary Soper, Project Leader, Parliamentary Precinct Directorate. From the Library of Parliament: Richard Paré, Parliamentary Librarian; François LeMay, Director General, Information and Documentation Branch.

Pursuant to Rule 86(1)a of the Rules of the Senate and Standing Order 108(2) of the House of Commons, briefing session on the renovations to the Library of Parliament.

Glenn Duncan and Richard Paré made statements and, along with the other witnesses, answered questions.

The Co-Chair, Mr. Malhi, thanked Senator Gigantès for his service to the Committee on the occasion of his upcoming retirement.

At 1:21 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
