Meeting No. 3

Tuesday, March 31, 1998

The Standing Joint Committee on the Library of Parliament met at 3:35 o’clock p.m., this day, in room 237-C, Centre Block, the Co-Chair, Gurbax Malhi, presiding.

Members of the Committee present:

Representing the Senate: Eymard G. Corbin, Norman Grimard and Louis J. Robichaud.

Representing the House of Commons: Marlene Catterall, Hec Cloutier, John Finlay, Deboray Grey, Jim Karygiannis, Gurbax Malhi, Louis Plamondon, Karen Redman, Jacques Saada and Brent St.Denis.

In attendance: Tonu Onu, Joint Clerk of the Committee.

Witnesses: From the Library of Parliament: Richard Paré, Parliamentary Librarian; Hugh Finsten, Director General, Parliamentary Research Branch; François LeMay, Director General, Information and Documentation Branch; Monique Boutin, Director, Finance and Material Management.

Consideration of the Main Estimates 1998-99, Vote 10 under PARLIAMENT (Library of Parliament).

The Order of Reference from the House dated February 26, 1998, in relation to the Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 1999, being read as follows:

Ordered: - That, Vote 10 under Parliament be referred to the Standing Joint Committee on the Library of Parliament.

The Co-Chair called Vote 10 under PARLIAMENT.

At 3:43 o’clock p.m., the sitting was suspended while the Members proceeded to the Library of Parliament for a tour.

At 4:10 o’clock p.m., the sitting resumed.

Richard Paré, Hugh Finsten and François LeMay made opening statements and, with the other witness, answered questions.

Vote 10 carried.

Ordered, - That the Co-Chairs report Vote 10, under PARLIAMENT, to the Senate and to the House of Commons.

At 5:12 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
