1. The Food and Drugs Act is amended by
adding the following after section 5:
|
|
|
5.1 (1) No prepackaged food shall be sold at
retail that has been genetically altered or that
contains an ingredient that has been
genetically altered unless the prepackaged
food has affixed to it a label containing a
declaration, in the prescribed form,
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Definitions
|
(2) In this section,
|
|
``prepac- kaged food'' « aliment préemballé »
|
``prepackaged food'' means any food that is
packaged in a container in such a manner
that it is ordinarily sold to or used or
purchased by a consumer without being
re-packaged.
|
|
``genetic
alteration'' « modifica- tion génétique »
|
``genetic alteration'' means genetic alteration
or development through a prescribed
biotechnological process.
|
|
|
2. Subsection 30(1) of the Act is amended
by adding the following after paragraph (l):
