Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, May 1, 2018, and Standing Order 108(4)(a) of the House of Commons, the Committee proceeded to a briefing on the digitization of responses to written questions.

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 1:00 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 1:03 p.m., the sitting resumed.

It was agreed, — That the Committee reiterate its desire, expressed on Thursday, May 15, 2014, to have sessional papers available in electronic form to the general public within a reasonable timeframe, while considering accessibility issues, and that an update be provided on progress and timelines toward this goal no later than the end of the current fiscal year.

It was agreed, — That, in the context of the digitization of responses to written questions, the Joint Chairs be authorized to write a letter to the Chair of the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs inquiring about the status of that Committee’s study of the review of the House of Commons Electronic Petitions System, and that an answer be requested by Friday, December 14, 2018.

ORDERED, — That the analysts prepare for the Committee a briefing note on the efforts to digitize government documents in other jurisdictions outside of Parliament.

At 1:23 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
