On 19 June 2009, the President of the Treasury Board introduced Bill C-49, An Act for granting to Her Majesty certain sums of money for the federal public administration for the financial year ending March 31, 2010, in the House of Commons and it was given first reading.

Bill C-49 (Appropriation Act No. 3, 2009-2010) received Royal Assent on 23 June 2009 and authorizes payments to defray certain expenses of the public service of Canada, not otherwise provided for, for the financial year ending 31 March 2010. The Act provides for the sum of $5,252,902,404.00 to be appropriated from the Consolidated Revenue Fund to be used the public service of Canada. The Act came into force on Royal Assent.
