This enactment allows a Canadian citizen or permanent resident to make a once-in-a-lifetime sponsorship of a relative who is not a member of the family class.

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

1. Section 13 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act is amended by adding the following after subsection (1):

1. L’article 13 de la Loi sur l’immigration et la protection des réfugiés est modifié par adjonction, après le paragraphe (1), de ce qui suit :

Right to sponsor one additional relative

(1.1) Subject to the regulations, a Canadian citizen or permanent resident may, once in their lifetime, sponsor one foreign national who is a relative but is not a member of the family class.

(1.1) Tout citoyen canadien ou tout résident permanent peut, sous réserve des règlements, parrainer une fois au cours de sa vie un étranger qui est un parent mais qui ne fait pas partie de la catégorie « regroupement familial ».
