This enactment amends the Canadian Bill of Rights to include the right to proper housing at a reasonable cost and free of unreasonable barriers.

Preamble

1960, c. 44

 Whereas the Parliament of Canada recognizes the dignity and worth of all individuals and acknowledges that individuals have the right to enjoy the security and benefits provided only by proper housing;

 And Whereas continued access to proper housing, free of unreasonable financial or other barriers, is necessary to ensure that right;

Now, Therefore, Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

Attendu :

que le Parlement du Canada reconnaît la dignité et la valeur de tous les individus et que chacun a droit à la sécurité et aux avantages que procure un logement adéquat;

que l’exercice de ce droit passe par l’accès permanent à un logement adéquat, sans obstacles injustifiés, notamment financiers,

Sa Majesté, sur l’avis et avec le consentement du Sénat et de la Chambre des communes du Canada, édicte :

1. Section 1 of the Canadian Bill of Rights is amended by adding the following after paragraph (b):

(b.1) the right of the individual to proper housing, at a reasonable cost and free of unreasonable barriers;

1. L’article 1 de la Déclaration canadienne des droits est modifié par adjonction, après l’alinéa b), de ce qui suit :

b.1) le droit de l’individu à un logement adéquat, à un prix raisonnable et sans obstacles injustifiés;
