Préambule
Attendu :
que le Canada a grandement bénéficié de la venue d’immigrants de toutes les origines, qui constituent aujourd’hui une partie essentielle de sa population;
qu’il a aussi grandement bénéficié de l’apport des immigrants pour son développement social et culturel, sa prospérité économique et son rayonnement dans le monde;
qu’il a en outre déjà reconnu légalement plusieurs journées, semaines et mois célébrant le patrimoine de diverses communautés et divers groupes ethniques sur son territoire;
qu’il est très important de sensibiliser nos enfants et les futures générations au rôle joué par l’immigration dans l’édification de notre pays;
qu’en novembre, le Canada célèbre déjà la Semaine nationale de l’immigration francophone;
que la Loi sur l’immigration et la protection des réfugiés, qui établit les notions et principes fondamentaux en matière d’immigration et de protection des réfugiés, a été sanctionnée le 1er novembre 2001;
qu’il est souhaitable de fixer une période pendant laquelle les Canadiens auront l’occasion de reconnaître et de célébrer l’apport des immigrants à la société canadienne,
Preamble
Whereas Canada has greatly benefited from the arrival of immigrants from all backgrounds who today make up a vital part of its population;
Whereas Canada has greatly benefited from immigrants’ contributions to its social and cultural development, economic prosperity and global outreach;
Whereas Canada has already recognized many days, weeks and months to celebrate the heritage of diverse communities and ethnic groups in Canada;
Whereas it is very important to educate children and future generations about the role played by immigration in building Canada;
Whereas Canada already celebrates the National Francophone Immigration Week in November;
Whereas the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, which establishes principles and fundamental norms related to immigration and refugee protection, received royal assent on November 1, 2001;
And whereas it is desirable to establish a period when Canadians can recognize and celebrate immigrants’ contributions to Canadian society;

Now, therefore, His Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:
