SOMMAIRE
Le texte modifie la Loi référendaire afin de permettre la tenue d’un référendum sur une question relative à la réforme du système électoral fédéral et d’autoriser qu’un référendum ait lieu en même temps qu’une élection générale.
SUMMARY
This enactment amends the Referendum Act to allow a referendum to be held on a question relating to the reform of Canada’s electoral system and to allow for a referendum to be held at the same time as a general election.

1 Le titre intégral de la Loi référendaire est remplacé par ce qui suit :

2 Le paragraphe 3(1) de la même loi est remplacé par ce qui suit :
2 Subsection 3(1) of the Act is replaced by the following:

Proclamation of referendum
3 (1) Le gouverneur en conseil, s’il estime que l’intérêt public justifie la consultation du corps électoral canadien par voie référendaire sur une question relative à la Constitution du Canada Insertion start ou à la réforme du système électoral fédéral Insertion end , peut, par proclamation, la lui soumettre lors d’un référendum tenu dans l’ensemble du pays ou dans une ou plusieurs provinces mentionnées dans la proclamation.
3 (1) Insertion start If Insertion end the Governor in Council considers that it is in the public interest to obtain by means of a referendum the opinion of electors on any question relating to the Constitution of Canada Insertion start or to the reform of the electoral system of Canada Insertion end , the Governor in Council may, by proclamation, direct that the opinion of electors be obtained by putting the question to the electors of Canada or of one or more provinces specified in the proclamation at a referendum called for that purpose.
