SOMMAIRE
Le texte modifie l’article 128 de la Loi constitutionnelle de 1867 afin de prévoir qu’avant d’entrer dans l’exercice de leurs fonctions, les membres du Sénat et de la Chambre des communes du Canada peuvent choisir de prêter et souscrire le serment d’allégeance, un serment de fonction ou les deux.
SUMMARY
This enactment amends section 128 of the Constitution Act, 1867 to provide that every member of the Senate or House of Commons of Canada may, before taking their seat, choose to take and subscribe the oath of allegiance, an oath of office or both.

1 L’article 128 de la Loi constitutionnelle de 1867 devient le paragraphe 128(1) et est modifié par adjonction de ce qui suit :
1 Section 128 of the Constitution Act, 1867 is renumbered as subsection 128(1) and is amended by adding the following:

(2) Nonobstant le paragraphe (1), les membres du Sénat ou de la Chambre des Communes du Canada pourront prêter et souscrire le serment de fontion énoncé dans la cinquième annexe de la présente loi plutôt que le serment d’allégeance ou prêter et souscrire les deux.
End of inserted block(2) Notwithstanding subsection (1), every Member of the Senate or House of Commons of Canada may take and subscribe the Oath of Office contained in the Fifth Schedule to this Act instead of the Oath of Allegiance or may take and subscribe both.
