SOMMAIRE
Le texte modifie la Loi de 2001 sur la marine marchande afin qu’un étranger titulaire d’un diplôme décerné par un établissement d’enseignement maritime canadien désigné par règlement puisse être titulaire d’un brevet d’aptitude.
SUMMARY
This enactment amends the Canada Shipping Act, 2001 in order for a foreign national who holds a diploma issued by a prescribed Canadian maritime institution to be eligible for a certificate of competency.

1 La définition de personne qualifiée, à l’article 2 de la Loi de 2001 sur la marine marchande du Canada, est modifiée par suppression de « (qualified person) » à la fin de l’alinéa b) et par adjonction, après l’alinéa b), de ce qui suit :
1 The definition qualified person in section 2 of the Canada Shipping Act, 2001 is amended by striking out “or” at the end of paragraph (a), by replacing “(personne qualifiée)” at the end of paragraph (b) with “or” and by adding the following after paragraph (b):

88 (1) Seuls les citoyens canadiens, les résidents permanents au sens du paragraphe 2(1) de la Loi sur l’immigration et la protection des réfugiés Insertion start et les étrangers, au sens du paragraphe 2(1) de la Loi sur l’immigration et la protection des réfugiés, titulaires d’un diplôme décerné par un établissement d’enseignement maritime canadien désigné par règlement Insertion end peuvent être titulaires d’un brevet d’aptitude délivré sous le régime de la présente partie.
88 (1) Only a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident within the meaning of subsection 2(1) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act Insertion start or a foreign national within the meaning of subsection 2(1) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act who holds a diploma issued by a prescribed Canadian maritime institution Insertion end may hold a certificate of competency that is issued under this Part.
