SUMMARY
This enactment amends the Official Languages Act in order that the requirement to understand both official languages also apply to the judges of the Supreme Court of Canada.

An Act to amend the Official Languages Act (Supreme Court of Canada) |
Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

Official Languages Act
1 (1) The portion of subsection 16(1) of the Official Languages Act before paragraph (a) is replaced by the following:
Duty to ensure understanding without an interpreter
16 (1) Every federal court has the duty to ensure that
(2) Subsection 16(3) of the Act is repealed.
Coming into Force
Order or 30 months after royal assent
2 This Act comes into force on the day that, in the thirtieth month after the month in which it receives royal assent, has the same calendar number as the day on which it receives royal assent or, if that thirtieth month has no day with that number, the last day of that thirtieth month or on any earlier day that may be fixed by order of the Governor in Council.
