SUMMARY

This enactment amends the Firearms Act to tighten the rules governing the transportation of firearms that are not hunting firearms. It also replaces the concept of firearms registration with that of firearms inscription and restricts the locations where firearms subject to an inscription certificate must be kept. Finally, it amends the Criminal Code to make changes to the definitions relating to firearms, by defining “hunting firearm”, amending the definition “prohibited firearm” and replacing the definition “restricted firearm” with that of “circumscribed firearm”.

Le texte modifie la Loi sur les armes à feu afin de resserrer les règles portant sur le transport des armes à feu qui ne sont pas des armes à feu de chasse. Il remplace aussi le concept d’enregistrement des armes à feu par celui d’immatriculation des armes à feu et restreint les lieux où les armes à feu visées par un certificat d’immatriculation doivent être gardées. Enfin, il modifie le Code criminel afin de modifier les définitions relatives aux armes à feu. Il définit ainsi l’expression « arme à feu de chasse », modifie l’expression « arme à feu prohibée » et remplace l’expression « arme à feu à autorisation restreinte » par l’expression « arme à feu à prohibition localisée ».
