SUMMARY
This enactment amends the Auditor General Act and the Federal Sustainable Development Act to make port authorities subject to the sustainable development provisions of those Acts.

An Act to amend the Auditor General Act and the Federal Sustainable Development Act (port authorities)
Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

AUDITOR GENERAL ACT
1. The definition “category I department” in section 2 of the Auditor General Act is amended by adding striking out “and” at the end of paragraph (b), by adding “and” after paragraph (c) and by adding the following after paragraph (c):
(d) any port authority mentioned in the schedule to the Canada Marine Act.

FEDERAL SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT ACT
2. Subsections 11(1) and (2) of the Federal Sustainable Development Act are replaced by the following:
Sustainable development strategies
11. (1) Each Minister presiding over a department named in Schedule I to the Financial Administration Act, an agency named in the schedule of this Act or the minister responsible for any port authorities mentioned in the schedule to the Canada Marine Act shall cause the department, agency or port authority to prepare a sustainable development strategy containing objectives and plans for the department, agency or port authority that complies with and contributes to the Federal Sustain-able Development Strategy, appropriate to the department, agency or port authority’s mandate and shall cause the strategy to be laid before each House of Parliament within one year after the Federal Sustainable Development Strategy is first tabled in a House of Parliament under section 10.
Updating and tabling
(2) A minister to whom subsection (1) applies shall cause the sustainable development strategy of the department, agency or port authority to be updated at least once every three years and shall cause each updated strategy to be laid before each House of Parliament on any of the next 15 days on which that House is sitting after the strategy is updated.
