An Act to amend the Broadcasting Act (sports blackouts)

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:
|

1. Subsection 9(1) of the Broadcasting Act is amended by striking out “and” at the end of paragraph (g), by adding “and” at the end of paragraph (h) and by adding the following after paragraph (h):
|

1. Le paragraphe 9(1) de la Loi sur la radiodiffusion est modifié par adjonction, après l’alinéa h), de ce qui suit :

|
|
|
|
(i) forbid any licensee to black out a sports event being held in a venue that has received a subsidy or tax relief from the federal government or from a provincial or municipal government.
|
|
|
|
i) interdire aux titulaires de licences les embargos sur les événements sportifs qui se déroulent dans un site qui a reçu une subvention de l'administration fédérale, provinciale ou municipale ou qui a bénéficié d'un allégement fiscal.

|

2. Subsection 10(1) of the Act is amended by adding the following after paragraph (f):

|
|
|
(f.1) for the purposes of paragraph 9(1)(i), defining the phrase “black out” and setting out the circumstances in which the prohibition applies;
|
|
|
|
f.1) pour l’application de l’alinéa 9(1)i), définir le terme « embargo » et prévoir les circonstances dans lesquelles l'interdiction s’applique;
