An Act to amend the Employment Insurance Act (removal of waiting period for special benefits)
1996, c. 23
Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:
1. Section 13 of the Employment Insurance Act is replaced by the following:
Waiting period
13. Except with respect to special benefits, a claimant is not entitled to be paid benefits in a benefit period until, after the beginning of the benefit period, the claimant has served a two-week waiting period that begins with a week of unemployment for which benefits would otherwise be payable.
2. Section 152.15 of the Act is replaced by the following:
Waiting period
152.15 Except with respect to benefits paid under any of sections 152.03 to 152.06, a self-employed person is not entitled to be paid benefits in a benefit period until, after the beginning of the benefit period, the person has served a two-week waiting period that begins with a week of unemployment for which benefits would otherwise be payable.
