An Act to amend the Canadian Payments Act (debit card payment systems)
R.S., c. C-21
Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:
1. The definition “designated payment system” in section 36 of the Canadian Payments Act is replaced by the following:
“designated payment system”

“designated payment system” means a payment system designated under subsection 37(1) or (6).
2. Section 37 of the Act is amended by adding the following after subsection (5):
Designated payment systems
(6) The following payment systems are hereby designated:
(a) the payment system operated by the Interac Association; and
(b) the payment systems operated in Canada in connection with Visa and MasterCard debit cards.
Application of certain provisions
(7) For greater certainty, subsections (2), (3) and (5) do not apply to the designations under subsection (6).
