SUMMARY
This enactment requires the Minister of Transport to initiate discussions with the provincial and territorial ministers responsible for transportation matters for the purpose of developing a national transportation strategy for the electrification of commuter rail systems.

An Act respecting a national transportation strategy for the electrification of commuter rail systems
Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:
SHORT TITLE
Short Title
1. This Act may be cited as the National Transportation Strategy for the Electrification of Commuter Rail Systems Act.
INTERPRETATION
Definition of “Minister”
2. In this Act, “Minister” means the Minister of Transport.
NATIONAL STRATEGY
Federal-Provincial-Territorial Discussions
3. Within 30 days after this Act comes into force, the Minister shall initiate discussions with the provincial and territorial ministers responsible for transportation matters for the purpose of developing, within one year after this Act comes into force, a national transportation strategy for the electrification of commuter rail systems.
Conference
4. The Minister may convene a conference of the provincial and territorial ministers responsible for transportation matters, together with other stakeholders invited by the Minister, if the Minister is of the opinion that holding such a conference would facilitate the discussions referred to in section 3.
Report
5. Within 30 days after the strategy referred to in section 3 has been developed, the Minister shall
(a) in consultation with the provincial and territorial ministers responsible for transportation matters, prepare a report outlining the strategy; and
(b) publish the report on the departmental website.
Implementation
6. After the strategy referred to in section 3 has been developed, the Minister shall work with the provincial and territorial governments — and with any other governments and stakeholders affected by the strategy — to carry out whatever measures are necessary to facilitate the implementation of the strategy.
