Bill C-589

SUMMARY

This enactment amends the Parliament of Canada Act to prohibit the members of the House of Commons from using funds, goods, services or premises made available to them for the carrying out of parliamentary functions to support or oppose the appointment or the election of a person to the board of directors of the Canadian Wheat Board or to that of any federal body. The enactment also amends the Canada Post Corporation Act to prohibit those members from transmitting mail free of postage for the same purpose.

Le texte modifie la Loi sur le Parlement du Canada afin d’interdire aux députés d’utiliser les fonds, biens, services et locaux mis à leur disposition dans le cadre de leurs fonctions parlementaires pour appuyer la nomination ou l'élection d’une personne au conseil d’administration de la Commission canadienne du blé ou à celui de tout organisme fédéral, ou pour s’y opposer. Il modifie aussi la Loi sur la Société canadienne des postes afin d’interdire aux députés de transmettre des envois en franchise pour les mêmes fins.
