Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

Short title

1. This Act may be cited as the Labelling of Food Products Containing Sodium Act.

3. Despite anything in the Food and Drugs Act or the regulations made under that Act, the Minister shall, within one year after the day on which this Act comes into force, make regulations requiring that the label of a food product containing sodium indicate the sodium content per serving expressed both in milligrams and as a percentage of the Department of Health’s recommended Adequate Intake (AI).

3. Malgré la Loi sur les aliments et drogues et ses règlements d’application, le ministre est tenu, dans l'année suivant la date d’entrée en vigueur de la présente loi, de prendre des règlements exigeant que l’étiquette des produits alimentaires contenant du sodium en indique, pour chaque portion, la teneur en sodium exprimée à la fois en milligrammes et en pourcentage de l’apport suffisant (AS) recommandé par le ministère de la Santé.
