SUMMARY

This enactment amends the Statistics Act to provide that the census of population taken under section 19 of the Act must be taken using a long-form census questionnaire that conforms substantially, in length and substantive scope, to the census starting in 1971 and at intervals thereafter to meet the requirements of that section. This enactment also removes the punishment of imprisonment for a person convicted of the offence of providing false or misleading information.

Le texte modifie la Loi sur la statistique pour prévoir que le recensement de la population fait aux termes de l’article 19 de la loi est fait à l’aide d’un questionnaire complet qui, pour répondre aux dispositions de cet article, doit se conformer essentiellement, par la longueur et la portée fondamentale, aux recensements faits depuis 1971. Il abolit aussi la peine d’emprisonnement dont est passible quiconque est reconnu coupable d’avoir fourni des renseignements faux ou trompeurs.
