An Act to promote the development of bicycle paths

Whereas the Government of Canada is committed to focusing, on a nation-wide basis, on pollution prevention as one aspect of environmental protection;

And whereas it attaches great importance to promoting and maintaining the physical, mental and social well-being of Canadians;

1. This Act may be cited as the Bicycle Path Promotion Act.

Payment

2. (1) The Minister of Finance may make direct payments to a trust established to provide funding to the provinces, territories and municipalities to develop bicycle paths during the five-year period commencing on the day on which this Act comes into force.

2. (1) Le ministre des Finances peut faire des paiements directs à une fiducie établie en vue de fournir du financement à des provinces, des territoires et des municipalités pour l’aménagement de pistes cyclables au cours de la période de cinq ans commençant à l’entrée en vigueur de la présente loi.

Determination of the amount

(2) The amount that may be provided to a province, territory or municipality under this section is to be determined in accordance with the terms of the trust indenture establishing the trust.

(2) La somme qui peut être versée à telle province, à tel territoire ou à telle municipalité est déterminée en conformité avec les modalités énoncées dans l’acte établissant la fiducie.

(3) Any amount payable under this section may be paid out of the Consolidated Revenue Fund, on the requisition of the Minister of Finance, at the times and in the manner that the Minister of Finance considers appropriate.

(3) À la demande du ministre des Finances, les sommes à payer au titre du présent article sont prélevées sur le Trésor, selon les échéances et les modalités qu’il estime indiquées.
