An Act respecting the Health of Animals Regulations (animals in transit)

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

1. The Governor in Council shall, within 60 days after this Act comes into force, make the following amendments to the Health of Animals Regulations:

1. Dans les soixante jours suivant l’entrée en vigueur de la présente loi, le gouverneur en conseil apporte les modifications suivantes au Règlement sur la santé des animaux :

(a) paragraphs 148(1)(a) and (b) of those Regulations are replaced by the following:

a) les alinéas 148(1)a) et b) de ce règlement sont remplacés par ce qui suit :

(a) equines, swine or other monogastric animals for longer than 8 hours; or

(b) cattle, sheep, goats or other ruminants for longer than 12 hours.

(b) subsection 148(2) of those Regulations is replaced by the following:

a) des équidés, porcs ou autres animaux monogastriques pendant plus de 8 heures;

b) des bovins, moutons, chèvres ou autres ruminants pendant plus de 12 heures.

b) le paragraphe 148(2) de ce règlement est remplacé par ce qui suit :

(2) Subsection (1) does not apply to ruminants that will reach their final destination in Canada where they may be fed and watered and rest without being confined for longer than 12 hours.

(2) Le paragraphe (1) ne s’applique pas aux ruminants qui atteindront leur destination définitive au Canada à un endroit où ils peuvent être nourris et abreuvés et se reposer sans être enfermés pendant plus de 12 heures.
