SUMMARY

The purpose of this enactment is to establish a process of consultation with the provinces in order to achieve uniformity in the environmental standards applied throughout the country.

The Minister of the Environment is required to convene a conference of provincial ministers of the environment and to establish an advisory committee on uniformity in environmental standards. The Committee is responsible for the preparation of a report to be laid by the Minister before each House of Parliament and to be considered by the appropriate Standing Committees.

Le texte a pour objet d’établir un processus de consultation avec les provinces afin d’assurer l’uniformité des normes environnementales appliquées dans l’ensemble du pays.

Le ministre de l’Environnement est tenu de convoquer une conférence des ministres provinciaux de l’environnement et de constituer un comité consultatif sur l’uniformisation des normes environnementales. Ce comité a la responsabilité d’établir un rapport qu’il remet au ministre pour dépôt devant les deux chambres du Parlement, lequel est ensuite soumis aux comités permanents compétents pour étude.
