An Act respecting a Tartan Day

Whereas Canadians of Scottish descent have played an influential role in the development of Canada and have contributed immensely to the arts, the sciences, politics, law, and other fields;

Whereas over four million Canadians claim Scottish roots, thereby constituting the fifth largest ethnic group in Canada;

And whereas Tartan Day has been proclaimed in each of the provinces of Canada;

que les Canadiens d’ascendance écossaise ont joué un rôle de premier plan dans le développement du Canada et ont largement contribué aux domaines des arts, des sciences, de la politique et du droit, pour ne nommer que ceux-là;

que plus de quatre millions de Canadiens se déclarent d’ascendance écossaise, ce qui fait d’eux le cinquième groupe ethnique en importance au Canada;

que chacune des provinces canadiennes a institué un Jour du tartan,

Now, therefore, Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

Short title

1. This Act may be cited as the Tartan Day Act.

2. Throughout Canada, in each and every year, the sixth day of April shall be known as “Tartan Day”.
