SUMMARY
This enactment amends the Library and Archives of Canada Act to provide for the establishment of a permanent display in the National Capital Region of portraits and works related to portraiture from the collection of the Library and Archives of Canada. The permanent display is to be called the National Portrait Gallery.

An Act to amend the Library and Archives of Canada Act (National Portrait Gallery)

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:
1. The Library and Archives of Canada Act is amended by adding the following after section 17:
NATIONAL PORTRAIT GALLERY
Permanent display
17.1 (1) In furtherance of its objects, the Library and Archives of Canada shall establish a permanent display of portraits and works related to portraiture from its collection, including paintings, sketches, sculptures or photographs.
National Portrait Gallery
(2) The permanent display established under subsection (1) shall be known as the National Portrait Gallery, and shall be accessible to the public.
Location
(3) The National Portrait Gallery shall be located in the National Capital Region described in the schedule to the National Capital Act.
Coming into force
2. This Act comes into force 180 days after the day on which it receives royal assent or on any earlier day that may be fixed by order of the Governor in Council.
