An Act respecting a day to honour Canada's marine industry

WHEREAS Canada recognizes the importance of its rich marine history and the importance of the marine industry today;

WHEREAS the marine industry handles Canada’s imports, exports, domestic shipments and millions of annual cruise passengers;

WHEREAS the Parliament of Canada wishes to pay special tribute to the marine industry for the many benefits that it provides to this country;

AND WHEREAS Canada would like to honour those who currently serve and who have served as merchant mariners in service to their country;

Attendu :

que le Canada reconnaît l’importance de sa riche histoire maritime et celle de l’industrie maritime actuelle;

que cette industrie s'occupe, au Canada, des importations, des exportations et des livraisons intérieures et transporte annuellement des millions de passagers de croisière;

que le Parlement du Canada souhaite rendre un hommage spécial à l’industrie maritime pour les nombreux bienfaits qu’elle apporte au pays;

que le Canada désire honorer tous ceux qui oeuvrent actuellement au service du pays en tant que marins marchands ou qui l’ont fait par le passé,

NOW, THEREFORE, Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

1. This Act may be cited as the National Marine Day Act.

2. Throughout Canada, in each and every year, the 26th day of May shall be known as “National Marine Day”.
