SUMMARY
This enactment designates the 17th day of April in each and every year as a day for the people of Canada to celebrate and promote the word and spirit of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

An Act respecting a Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms Day
WHEREAS the Parliament of Canada wishes to recognize that the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms defines and reflects the Canadian social, political and judicial reality and guides our democratic and legislative processes;
AND WHEREAS it is important to celebrate our history while remembering the lessons of that history that were learned by our ancestors in creating this great country;
NOW, THEREFORE, Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:
SHORT TITLE
Short title
1. This Act may be cited as the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms Day Act.
CANADIAN CHARTER OF RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS DAY
Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms Day
2. Throughout Canada, in each and every year, the 17th day of April shall be known as “Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms Day” in recognition of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and to celebrate and promote its word and spirit.
Not a legal holiday
3. For greater certainty, Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms Day is not a legal holiday or a non-juridical day.
