SUMMARY
This enactment amends the Citizenship Act to provide expedited citizenship for permanent residents who serve in the Canadian armed forces.

An Act to amend the Citizenship Act (service in the Canadian armed forces)
R.S., c. C-29
Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:
1. Section 5 of the Citizenship Act is amended by adding the following after subsection (1.1):
Days served in the Canadian armed forces
(1.2) Where an applicant for citizenship has enrolled as an officer or as a non-commissioned member of the Canadian armed forces or has been released from the Canadian armed forces at the expiration of the term of service for which the applicant enrolled as an officer or as a non-commissioned member, any day served in the Canadian armed forces shall be treated as equivalent to one day of residence in Canada for the purposes of paragraph (1)(c) and subsection 11(1).
